New Year
New Year is one of the favourite holidays in Russia. It is 31 January. People prepare well for it. They decorate New Year tree, buy presents, cook food. We cook and buy the best meals for the holiday. Meals are very varied, there are no special dishes. But as a rule we have a lot of salads, some hot dishes (roast, baked), a lot of cakes.
Children have parties at kinder gardens and schools several days before the holiday. They wear costumes of animals, pirates or fairy tales characters. Ded Moroz and his grand daughter Sneguroshka bring gifts.
31 December people sit down at the table at 10 p.m. to see the old year off. Then, at midnight they meet the new year, make fireworks, go to the street to celebrate or eat at home and watch TV till morning. People like to have many guests.
