Day of the Dead is a Mexican holiday celebrated in Mexico and in other cultures throughout the world. The holiday focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died. The celebration takes place on November 1 and 2, in connection with the Catholic holidays of Traditions connected with the holiday All Saints day and All Souls Day include building private altars honoring the deceased using sugar skulls and the favorite foods and beverages of the departed and visiting graves with these as gifts.
El dia de los Muertos, or day of the Dead, doesn't mourn someone's death, but celebrates the life that person had.
People often put construct altars which consist of the dead persons favorite things, such as songs, clothing, drink food, or pictures of that person. This will bring the spirit back to the altar.
These are the altars we made - Selena, Michael Jackson, and Houdini.
Families will make special food for Day of the Dead, including:
-Dead bread
-Sugar skulls
-Pan de Muertos (Bread of the Dead)
-Atole (a porridge made of corn, water, and milk)
